This is the video I made to go with my google map pin for The Monument. It basically takes you around the viewing platform at the top and freeze frames to point out certain sight-seeing landmarks. I pointed out the tourists for a bit of light humour as basically… there were HARDLY ANY tourists up there and the majority were British and/or elderly.
So I found this app on the iphone that is also called ‘Hidden London’… what the hell? I did forget to mention that this is where my idea to use The Monument came from (it’s so unknown I had no idea of it and i’ve been here a fair amount of time). This app can be half decent however it lacks interactivity, it would be improved by some google map stories like mine attached to it.
1. Vintage Green – Willesden Green
2. The Monument – Monument
3. Kingly Court – Carnaby Street
4. Neal’s Yard – Covent Garden
5. The Poetry Place – Covent Garden
There’s my top 5 list of hidden places in London, it really is compiled of places that not many people go and especially not tourists. Even I didn’t know about these places until after a year of living in London, it’s now been around 19 months and I have only just found out about the last three!! With the list will come videos and some photography, I’m definitely looking forward to the Monument.
I was in London today having a look around the shops in Covent Garden when my boyfriend took me to a place called Neal’s Yard. It is the most energetic little court!! As you walk in you’re surrounded by neon coloured buildings and vast amounts of foliage. The best part about it though (which is probably due to my amusement of simple things) is the moving mirror. This is literally stuck on to a wall next to the wild cafe, you just press the button on the side and it moves. Very old fashioned and hand painted but definitely a fun thing to put in there, and plus you get some funny pictures
This is definitely on my list of hidden places in London.
The mysteries of London, or something along those lines. I’m actually thinking about a list i’ve been wanting to compile for a while; hidden (non-touristy) things to do/go to in London. It’s a little bit rocky at the moment but I know I want to do it, there are a few places i’ve been to in my time here that I think people should definitely visit. The only problem being that they are the sort of places you only know of if you already know them, or have been told about them by a close friend. The first place I thought of was the Poetry Place in Covent Garden’s back streets. I’ll come back with my final list soon.
For the online idea I’ve been thinking about doing a google map story. At first I thought about doing something to compliment the pitch idea, like a top 5 bars to go to in London story, until I realised that maybe that has been far too over done. Thinking about new ideas now. A couple of days out in London should get my brain ticking.
The pitch went well I feel. Once I got going on my idea I pretty much couldn’t shut up. Hope David and Jim liked it, FINGERS CROSSED!! Maybe i’ll take the idea to Time Out…
I’ve been thinking about ideas to pitch and I’ve decided on a topic that aims at all students: where to go on a night out. I realise there are apps for this already but these all lack the things we actually want to know. What we need is an app that shows live updates from inside the bar itself from the people there; this would give people an idea of the vibe inside at that point in time.
I don’t think a successful app could be made for this, however, u
